Ferndale Chamber Moves to New Location

1743713_10153394818577427_997365749267076531_nWhen the Ferndale Library moved to their new space late last year, the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce couldn’t help but to hope to move to the library’s old location right next to Pioneer Park.

We are pleased to announce that we have officially moved to Pioneer Pavilion, 2007 Cherry Street, as of July 13, 2015. We look forward to serving visitors from far and wide and anticipate seeing more faces through our door, as we are now next to one of Ferndale’s largest tourist attractions—Pioneer Park.

Moving to the Pavilion allows for more visitor parking and space for large campers or RV’s to park as well.    The move also allows more room in the Visitor’s Center for brochures and Member inforamtion.  The Visitors Center will features a fireplace, a sitting area and computers for visitors to look up directions or book a hotel room.

The Chamber and the City of Ferndale will be hosting an open house to celebrate the move on August 6th from 2:30-6:30pm and everyone is welcome to attend.

Flicks in the Park

2015 Poster2ndmovieIf you missed “Hook” on July 10th don’t worry, “UP” is coming up.

Hook, shown on July 10th, was a great success, with over 300 people in attendance and many pirate tattoos handed out.

We look forward to showing the movie “Up” on August 7th.  Patrons can expect to see one of the historic Pioneer Park houses decorated like the “Up” movie house!

Flicks in the Park, located at Pioneer Park in Ferndale, is a free family-friendly event.

This year we are offering free hot dogs thanks to our  sponsors Larry & Beth Brown of the new Ferndale Grocery Outlet.

Ferndale Street Festival

Get ready, because the 12th Annual Ferndale Street Festival is just around the corner!

Over 120 food and craft vendors, live music, Super Hero themed Kids Street, Car Show and a beer garden can all be expected this year.

This year we are excited to feature two 80’s cover bands, one 90’s cover band, a country band and a folk/alternative band.  There truly is something for everyone’s ears.

Kids Street, sponsored by the Ferndale YMCA, is going to be superhero themed, so brings the kids out in their best superhero costume!

The beer/wine tent, sponsored by Phillips 66 Ferndale Refinery, will also be themed out this year.  We’re going Hawaiian luau with a twist!  Once the light starts to fade, parts of the beer garden will begin to glow.

Make sure to mark your calendars for August 28 and 29, because this  may just be the best Street Festival yet!

Board Member Profile

danDan Toperosky moved to the Ferndale area two years ago to take the Health Safety and Environmental Manager job at Phillips 66 refinery. He is  originally from Central Alberta, Canada, but spent the previous 17 year on the Gulf Coast in the communities south of Houston.

Toperosky took the position as Ferndale Chamber Board Member about 18 months ago.

“It has provided me an opportunity to give back to the community we moved into and learn a great deal about Ferndale and the county,” Toperosky said.

Each year, Toperosky is heavily involved with running the Ferndale Street Festival’s Phillips 66 Beer/Tent Garden and he looks forward to his third year under the tent this August.

In his free time, Toperosky enjoys playing with his two 11 year old kids.

“We are getting out and taking advantage of the opportunities this area provides and my wife and I have been trying to teach my kids to ski, fish, hike and bike. One of my bucket list goals is to visit all the National Parks, and was able to visit three in the last year,” Toperosky said.

Ambassador Spotlight

Alyssa SpringsBeing an Ambassador is fun and easy to work into my schedule. As someone who owns a local business, but is not native to Whatcom County, meeting new people is fun yet daunting when you walk into a room full of people you haven’t met yet. That’s why I enjoy introducing potential new members around at Chamber functions. I personally love hospitality and making people feel at home! I also attend ribbon cuttings, open houses and delivering Member of the Month plaques. How often do we go out of our way to see or experience another member’s workplace? When you learn more about someone, it’s easier to help them. Volunteering at the luncheon registration table is also a nice way to help me remember faces and names. When it comes down to it, being an Ambassador for the Chamber is a great way to build better relationships and help those same members feel welcome, included and important in our Chamber community.

Alyssa Springs owns Flow Motion, Ferndale’s wellness sanctuary. Alyssa brings the mind body connection mainstream via complete wellness, not just through physical exercise and proper nutrition, but holding equal weight in stress reduction and relaxation. www.MoveInFlowMotion.com
